Hugs can say many things.
They can say It's nice to see you old friend.
Or they can say I love you.
And sometimes they can say the words that are trapped inside. Words that get caught between your heart and your lips; tripping over fear and tangling themselves in your throat.
Things like:
I know it's hard for you to connect to people, but I'm here...connecting to you.
Thank you for being my mother and my father, even though you didn't have to.
Or more simply...Don't let go.
It would be a wonderful thing to let go of those fears. To say the words that are screaming to get out.
But sometimes a hug is all you have to show your affection. It's the only way to tell someone that in that moment, everything else has disappeared and they are all that matters. That moment will make you smile; make your heart beat faster. And it will carry you through to the next time you wrap your arms around me and we can do it all over again.
