I think I'm excited

OMG Y'ALL!
I'M LEAVING FOR DRAGON*CON IN TWO DAYS!!!

Yes I'm screaming.  Because I could wet myself; I'm that excited.
EXCITED!!!

Did I mention that I'm excited?

There is going to be so much glorious geeky things to see there, my head might explode.
EXPLODE!

Wil Wheaton is gonna be there.
Jen & John are gonna be there.
The Shat is gonna be there.
Colin Ferguson is gonna be there...hubba hubba.
Felicia Day is gonna be there.

I know most of you have no clue who these people are...but I don't care.
These are just a handful of people who make me squee with joy while watching what they do.
Acting, writing, blogging, standing there looking hot (Look here...dare you not to drool)...it all means something to me.
There are places, characters, pages that take me to other worlds; allow my brain to explore the depths of my imagination.
Oh...and laugh!!!

Enough for now.
I have packing to do.  And apparently some drool bibs to purchase.

Irene. You bitch.

On August 27, 2011, Hurricane Irene came barreling down on the East Coast of the USofA.  It slammed into Virginia and is currently ass-fucking the people of New York's Coney Island.

It has been raining since about 3pm Saturday. And at approximately 12midnight the wind started to pick up here in the Susquehanna Valley.  I went to bed around 1am hoping that my house would withstand the howling winds, and that the pool of water collecting underneath my chestnut tree would not grow larger and overtake my basement.

I don't normally ask people to pray for me...but this is what I woke to.

This gate is normally kept open.

 So is this gate.

Look how many chairs I have to sit upright.
THE HORROR!

That black thing lying there is a spout extension.  I'm not sure if it's mine or my neighbors.  Either way, it had to blow at least 4-5 FEET!

All those twigs!  I barely have a tree left.

Look at how much water pooled at the bottom of this slide.
There is at least a pint more than usual.

It's going to be a rough clean up here in the west end.  But somehow we'll all pull together and get through it.

Newton was on to something

Do you know what happens when a wet flip flop hits a smooth hard wood floor?
Gravity happens.

That's what.

My ass didn't actually connect with the dishes...but it was damn close.  You can't see my cat's face, but he was shaking his head in disappointment, while laughing on the inside I'm sure.

I thought I was going to lose the entire arm, but I created a tourniquet with my shoe string so I think I'll be fine now.

Nothing to see here people.  Move along!!

So in closing, drink more.
You have no pride while you're drunk.

My truth

You know that wall you build around yourself to keep from getting hurt? It's made up of fear.
It grows thicker with each passing year.
You think it's keeping people further away, but in reality it is smothering you.
It does not keep you safe.
It is keeping the people you love from reaching you.
It is keeping you from loving with truth.

Tear it down.
You may get hurt, but you will survive.

I did.

I'm here to hypnotize you with shiny things...

It's time to share some more things to distract you from your boring lives. And the buzz from my rum-n-coke is making me feel like sharing.

So last night I shared a video on my Facebook page.
***WARNING*** Could possibly be decoded as scary images for your brain.

I'm not a fan of spiders.  At. All.
Unless they are hiding out trying to lure unsuspecting bugs onto their web of hell.  And as long as said web is OUTside.  As in the opposite of INside.
Then, and only then, can nature and I agree that spiders are a much needed life form on this green earth.

Anyway, I think some spiders saw me post the above video and now they think I love them.  Because look what I found on the right side of my front awning.

And right smack dab in front of my front awning.

That son of a bitch on the front is HUGE!

How do I get the message out to these guys that this is not the safest home to hang out at?  Does anyone speak spiderese?  Seriously people...someone help a sister out before these fuckers are big enough to take me out!

Flashback!!

You got the look...now you can have the scent to go with it.

Found in your Manchester, Pa Dollar Tree folks.  That's right.  For the low low cost of $1.00 you too can smell like Midnight in a Gutter.*

*****************************************************************************

The candy of meats.  Buy the shirt I made** while you feast your eyes upon this...

What's that?  You're too busy to even bother looking at the shirt I made?
My kitty has something to say about that.

"THPT"

Check out one of my favorite blog posts so far this month, over at Epbot.
It's so full of awesome that Wil Wheaton twitted/tweeted/twatted about it!
If you have never heard of Jen at Epbot, take a few hours to familiarize yourself with her awesomeness.***
And then do yourself a favor and check out her other blog, Cake Wrecks

You're welcome.

My work here is done.
Go forth and buy cool stuff, read awesome blogs and feel free to share some cool stuff with me.  Just know I probably won't really give a fuck 'cause I'm too busy making bacon and fending off spiders with the force.

*Perry Richards gets total credit for this!

**Thanks to J.Thomas.  The coolest 'younger-than-me' dude I've ever known. EVER!

***Jen Yates probably won't be reading this but just in case she does: "Do not feel the need to get overly excited that I posted a link to your blog on my blog and then tell everyone on Facebook.  No, really...a free first edition prefessional Cake Wrecks gets Festive book will be payment enough"  ;)   btw I'm here til Tuesday.  ba-dum-dum

Monday's secrets revealed

I was going to write tonight but then I didn't feel like it.
Instead I finished an awesome Brian Keene book, 'The Rising'.
If you like horror fiction and you don't know who Brian Keene is, shame on you.  Now go here and learn yourself.  Then go to http://www.amazon.com/ and order some.  Or better yet, head out to the York Emporium and buy them there.  You're welcome.

I also made a pound of bacon and had myself a delicious bacon and lettuce sandwich.  I don't like raw tomato and I hate condiments on cold sandwiches, so yes, I ate it dry.
Oh I didn't use the entire pound on my sandwich so now I have leftovers for lunch....yum!

And now I'm sitting here watching 'Stand By Me' and drinking a beer.
Did you know that 'Stand By Me' celebrated it's 25th anniversary this month?
Wil Wheaton wrote a really nice blog about it, check it out here.  It's a very nice look into the mind of a 12 year old boy who becomes a man who reflects on a wonderful experience of a 12 year old boy.  Yes I'm a bit biased, because I love the way Mr. Wheaton writes...but it's a great post, none the less.
Go read it after you buy some books from Brian Keene.  Then buy some books from Wil Wheaton, because he's a great writer too.

Side note: no matter how many times I watch this movie...Lard Ass projectile vomiting still makes me gag.  In fact I can barely watch that entire scene.  Way to tell a story Gordie!

Now, it's been 3 1/2 years but I'm finally starting to enjoy this whole 'being alone' thing.  The weather helps...I love having the windows open.  But I also love that I can come home and cook dinner whenever I feel like it, sit on MY chair, burp and fart, pick my nose, scratch my ass and take as long in the bathroom as I want to.
Nice.
'They' say that when you aren't looking, that certain someone comes along.  So does this mean that now that I can enjoy the alone time again, that a certain someone who stares at me will finally make his move?
I doubt it.
But it's all good.  Just keep staring sweet-cheeks...I like it.
And don't worry, you're secret staring is safe with me.

Sigh...

I wonder how your day is going.
How often did you find reason to smile today?
What would it feel like to hold your hand in mine?

I'm okay. You're homocidal.

Oh, what a joyous weekend befell me.

Friday evening I joined my besty for a night of karaoke debauchery and frivolity.
It doesn't really get better than that, right there.
Except it did.
Because we were later joined by one of my other favorite people.

I can't say it enough...my friends are truly awesome.
And this I don't say enough...I love you guys, in ways I don't know how to express.  So hopefully the hugs are enough for now.

I didn't get to sleep until 3:30am but I drug my ass out of bed to hit up a friend's yard sale.  And I am SO glad I did.
Because looky what I got!!

Oh sweet mother of someone important.
I literally went straight for it, picked up and cradled it into my arms as if it were a child.
The previous owners explained that they couldn't even get the back open anymore, so it was not in working condition.  But for $7 bucks, I would happy just displaying it!

I brought it home and did a bit o'research on-line.  There were a few message boards with questions about non-working cameras.  I was about to give up when I decided to click on one more.  The second response to someone's post talked about a problem with the film.  His suggestion was to gently push one button while slowly advancing the film lever...it was much more technical but I'm not educated on the proper button names of a 1959 camera.
Didn't matter because it WORKED!
And I think there is still film in the camera!
I have no way to know if it's any good, but I don't want to attempt taking the film out of the camera, just in case it is.
The only problem is that the only lens I have is a zoom lens...but I'll take it.
My plan is to explore during my lunch hour tomorrow...see what I can find to snap.
I also don't have a flash for it, so daylight pics is my limit for now.

In the mean time, I'm still snapping away with my lil point-n-shoot.

Check out the lens!

I am.....

I don't usually post pics of myself, but I really like the simplicity in this shot.

I've discovered the the lighting at my work is really good for certain shots.

Just funnin...

Now back to my Saturday.
After my amazing find I decided to finally visit the York Emporium.
OH
MY
GAWD
!!

I literally felt like I walked into heaven.  There were books, and books and more books.  Records, CD's, trinkets, buttons, movies, and a life-sized cut out of Mr. Spock were also amongst the treasure.
What more could a geek girl ask for?

I picked up a Ramone's 'best of' CD.
Niiiice.

And as I walked toward the back of the store, my eyes fell upon a most glorious sight.

Awwww shit.....

Better yet...they are ALL signed.
Nice!

But the good times just kept coming.
My besty came over for movie night.  She recommended one and I hesitantly agreed.  Thank goodness I did.
Mary and Max is one the greatest movies I have ever seen.  It's both touching and funny at the same time.  I am so glad we watched it.

Of course our night ended way too late, but was filled with wonderful conversation.
All about turtles breathing through their anus, agoraphobia, and how wonderful it is that certain people literally bring our best qualities to the surface.

The shame that is my dickness...

Sometimes I say shit.
But sometimes that shit actually hurts people.
And although I don't apologize for the vulgar, weird, seriously fucked up things that spew from my mouth...I will humbly apologize for truly hurting someone I care about.

I am not a mean person.
True, I have gone through the last few years feeling disdain toward the human population as a whole.  But that was due to MY issues, not anyone elses'.  I don't really hate anyone.
I was hurting and needed to go through that phase in order to come out on the other side.

Yesterday evening I made a comment that in my brain sounded funny.
Bottom line...it wasn't.
And to the people it affected, I am truly sorry.

I try very hard to live by the motto "don't be a dick".
But I also live by another motto, "admit your dickness and apologize."

+20 for the new geek

On Friday evening's trek home, my son proclaimed that his new favorite game is Dungeons and Dragons.
I asked him who taught him how to play and he casually mentioned his friend Collandra.
A GIRL!
Yes!!
They don't play the actual game, but Collandra will make up adventures and give each person a character.  They write things on their white board and then physically play out the fantasy that she has set up.
How cool is that?
A 6th grade DM teaching my lil geek-in-training all about the sweet world of RPG's.

Now I admit...I've only tried to play the game once and I was totally lost.  Perhaps because the dweebs trying to teach me were not very patient.
However, I've always wanted to learn how to play.

Admittedly I was never involved in the geek world during my childhood.  Mostly due to the fact that we were poor and I had zero access to all things geek/cool.  Add to it the fact that zero of my friends liked the same things I did.
But what I could find, I devoured.  Mostly television shows, movies that re-played on television (severely edited, but I got the gist), and old Popular Mechanics and Omni magazines that I found at the library.
However, I don't think the amount of time spent within a community makes you any less worthy.  I'm just a late bloomer is all.
And despite the few issues I've had with haters within that community, I have never felt more loved or accepted.  Now how could that be wrong?

So here I sit during my lunch hour, doing research on how to get started in the D&D world.  Where can I find dice and possibly a game to join?
This could be something totally awesome that Ryan and I can do together.
And if that gets me called a geek, I'll accept it happily.
